Blackpool's Comedy Carpet

A "Comedy Carpet" by Gordon Young and Why Not Associates has been officially opened in Blackpool. This technique of decorative paving is open to us all as landscape architects and, if done with careful aesthetic and ethical sensibility, it can be a great addition to a scheme.

This is an interesting project, and close enough for a visit! Have a look at the pictures on the BBC coverage.

What's Art Got To Do With It?

International Artists Sans Façon are Lecturing at MSA

Tuesday 18.10.11       4.30 -5.30 pm    Room W9      John Dalton West Building       MMU

As part of the Experience Lecture Series, organised by the Landscape Architecture Department on behalf of MSA, Sans Façon will be giving a lecture in the new MSA building at MMU.

Sans façon began as an investigation between French architect Charles Blanc and British artist Tristan Surtees and developed into a collaborative art practice.

They undertake diverse temporary and permanent projects, and through their public art practice explore the relationship between people and place.  “We see the role of the artist and art as a catalyst; raising questions and inviting one to look and think differently about a place; hoping to create an opportunity rather than an inanimate object.”

Current works include: Watershed+ lead artist pilot project for the city of Calgary, Limelight: Saturday night an international touring installation, and a public orchard project for Worcester University.
